Corbin Butler Ponders In "Is It Safe to Say..."

A very vague title, you will wonder what "it" means. He dedicates this seven track tape to the dreamers and underdogs. Butler also reunites with Aygs Benedict, (the producer behind Rolling Ridge). Thus reflecting a similar compelling fuse of rock and hip-hop aesthetics.This work opens with "ISITSAFETOSAY", where the Howard graduate spews flows to showcase his intricate wordplay. He tells a story, which sets the tone for immense success over snappy snares . With a smooth transition, Corbin jumps to "Sidelines", a slow tempo with light percussion. Here, Butler's chorus reflects on his journey  reiterating: "Catch me riding through my old hood / everybody watching from the sidelines /  ain't nobody help me put in work though".Track three "LILHOMMIES" is one of the more heavy-hitting Hip-hop tracks. The $cofflaw affiliate reverts to a concern for the youth. "FTheLaw" integrates excessive drum and bass with a haunting ambience. He refers to his resentment against the law by chanting "I'm a Scofflaw, I say f*ck the law".$ean J aka Young Rick James hops on "MONEYGRAM" as a voice of the streets. Is It Safe To Say.. turns for a more materialist focus. His sophomore tape takes another turn with"MYLOVE".  Electrifying guitar rifs and funky undertones makes this track a groove tune.He closes out with "WONTDIE", his only co-produced track -- where he tries to make sense of reality. A warping production makes him contemplate various dichotomies.The DC based artist fearlessly bends the rules of musical confines. It It is evident that Corbin is a rapper who seamlessly incorporates conscious lyrics into his cohesively blended artistry. Tracks like "MYLOVE", "FTheLaw" and "LILHOMMIES" make the project worth the replay.Overall, the project leaves a strong lasting impression. This is not that last time you will hear from Corbin. It is safe to say, he is here to stay.
