Visuals Are Key: KAYTRANADA & Friends

I have learned to love Electronic concerts, especially the accompanying visuals.Haitian-Canadian DJ Kaytranada made a stop at the Observatory last Thursday to promote his new LP, 99.9%. His openers  included sibling-rapper Lou Phelps and Toronto one man show River Tiber. Luckily, I made it to the show on time around 9 pm. Within minutes, River came on stage with an electric guitar in hand and laptop propped nearby.  He was welcomed by a crowded full house.As usual, fans were unaware of the opener, but were wowed by his guitar solos & moving vocals. If you don't know him, he was on Drake's "No Tellin" from IYRTITL. He performed a bit of his Illusions & upcoming Indigo project. Various visual transitions took place on the backdrop, keeping listeners engaged as his name was highlighted with neon lights. River's set was very short but it was great to witness.Lou Phelps soon followed with a spun set. Attendees jumped and hyped him up with every track transition -- from Drake and A$AP Ferg to some Snoop Dogg, N*E*R*D & MJ. The rapper essentially played a bit of everything for everyone. Phelps finessed some freestyles for the one time too.KAYTRANADA finally approached the stage around 11. We were all in for the time of our lives. I literally danced my heart out, while others viciously bumped their heads to the music. We all lost track of the time and just enjoyed ourselves."TRACK UNO" and "BREAKDANCE LESSON N. 1" weaved in and out throughout the night. Kaytra gave us a flashback to his Teedra Moses remix of "Be Your Girl", Jamie Foxx's "One Too Many" and Janet Jackson's "If".  Towards the end of his set debuted his "Kiss It Better" remix. He also incorporated "VIVID DREAMS", "LITE SPOTS", "BREAKDANCE LESSON 1" and "YOU'RE THE ONE" into the night.I really love his visuals the most. Some images included his "LITE SPOTS" & "AT ALL" videos, 99.9% artworks, with occasional choreography segments from Martin and TLC. I want to live this show all over again. Don't sleep on DJ shows at concert venues. They're lit.
